TJ’s Tips - How To Clean Your BBQ

Step 1: Safety First

Ensure that your BBQ is turned off and completely cooled down before starting the cleaning process. Disconnect the propane tank or make sure the charcoal is extinguished.

Step 2: Gather Supplies

Collect all the necessary cleaning supplies, including:

Step 3: Remove Grates and Drip Trays

Carefully remove the cooking grates and drip trays from your BBQ. These parts can accumulate a lot of grease and food debris, so it's important to clean them thoroughly.

Step 4: Scrape the Grates

Using a BBQ brush or scraper, remove any loose debris, food particles, and excess grease from the grates. Scrub both sides of the grates to ensure they are clean. If necessary, soak them in warm soapy water for a few minutes before scrubbing.

Step 5: Clean the Drip Trays

Empty out the drip trays and scrape away any solid residue. Wash the trays with warm soapy water, using a sponge or cloth to remove any grease or stubborn stains. Rinse them thoroughly and set them aside to dry.

Step 6: Wipe Down the BBQ Interior

Using a damp cloth or sponge, wipe down the inside of the BBQ, including the walls, lid, and bottom. Make sure to remove any grease or residue that may have accumulated. For stubborn stains, you can use a mild BBQ cleaner or a mixture of dish soap and water.

Step 7: Clean the Burners

Inspect the burners for any clogs or blockages. If necessary, use a brush or toothpick to gently remove any debris. Be careful not to damage the burners. Wipe them clean using a damp cloth.

Step 8: Clean the Exterior

Wipe down the exterior of your BBQ with a cloth or sponge dampened with warm soapy water. Pay attention to areas prone to grease buildup, such as the control knobs and side shelves. Rinse the exterior with clean water and dry it thoroughly.

Step 9: Reassemble the BBQ

Once all the parts are clean and dry, reassemble the cooking grates and drip trays back into the BBQ. Make sure they are properly aligned and secure.

Step 10: Final Touches

Before using your BBQ again, heat it up for a few minutes to burn off any remaining residue or cleaning product. Use aluminum foil to cover the grates while heating to avoid contact with food.

Congratulations! Your BBQ is now clean and ready to be used again. Regular maintenance and cleaning will help prolong the life of your BBQ and ensure safe and enjoyable grilling experiences.
